The sea flap reveals coccoliths, the plates of calcium carbonate which make up the chalk.
This mat shows major landscape features of east Kent including a cross section of the Channel Tunnel, and features panels and pockets relating to local marine fossils and to the three main types of rock covered in the National Curriculum. This mat is one of five educational interactive story mats created for local museums as a part of the Rockband project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. (1.8x2.3m, 2013)
