Ripples in the Sand
Inspired by a walk on Marloes Beach in Pembrokeshire. The tide was out and the sand was covered in lines formed by the draining water. Deposits of tiny stones and shells had been left by the retreating tide. The paper background was wrung in a J-cloth before being left to dry. The resulting ripples in the paper were rubbed gently with treasure gold to highlight the ridges. Muslin was bonded to the back as a support for the sewing. Cretan stitch was choosen to suggest the trickles of water eroding the sand as they draining into the channels.
