The Icknield Way runs along the valley, with its springs and villages. The panel on the left shows a chalk clunch wall with a stone base and tiles on the top to protect the porous chalk.

This mat covers the region south and west of Wantage along the Ridgeway and the Vale of the White Horse, an area steeped in history and legends. The underlying rocks of the hills and valleys are very distinct, giving rise to differing landscape features, flora, land usage and settlement patterns, all of which are shown on the mat. This mat is one of five educational interactive story mats created for local museums as a part of the Rockband project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. (2.0x1.3m, 2013)
